Enterprise activity develops skills that you will all need when you finally go into the work-place. Approximately one in five of our students eventually become self-employed in some form and the rest of you are likely to end up in management positions that require you to be enterprising in your approach.
Enterprise skills are developed within the tutorial programme and there will be an opportunity to attend various talks and enter a national competition called the Global Enterprise Challenge.
Many of you will have been involved in Discovering Enterprise days or the Celtic Enterprise project while in school. At Gorseinon College, we take this a stage further by setting up Enterprise teams running small businesses, either as part of your course or as an extra-curricular activity. This is a practical way of developing useful skills and getting experience that you will find very useful in the future.
For example, teams running at the moment include:
GC, the College Magazine, who will be looking to recruit writers and photographers (very useful if you are considering journalism as a career)
Eventaprise, a team running a series of events for students during the College year, such as a safer driving display
The CLEAN team, a social enterprise run by Independent Living students, focusing on environmental issues, such as litter
The College is regularly represented in the West Wales regional final for Young Enterprise, a national competition.
