The Director General of City & Guilds, Mr Chris Jones, was at Gorseinon College on Friday 29th January to open the new Motor Vehicle facilities. The state-of-the art Workshop and classrooms are located within a recently completed wing of the College, which also houses the new Student Services area.
The Motor Vehicle suite is used by students on full time City & Guilds courses and by motor vehicle apprentices. The Work Based Learning provision at Gorseinon was recently awarded a raft of top grades by Estyn inspectors.
The Student Services area also holds a Grade 1 rating. Staff and students are now enjoying the benefits of purpose-built accommodation, including a spacious Study Skills centre.
Chris Jones spent some time viewing the new accommodation and equipment and complimented the College on placing the needs of students at the heart of this development. He expressed his pleasure at seeing that the College’s commitment to Vocational qualifications was matched by a readiness to make such a substantial investment to provide a realistic working environment for Motor Vehicle students.
Nick Bennett, the College Principal, commented: “I wish to thank all who have been involved in this project, which was completed on time and within the £1.4 million budget. It has meant a great deal of hard work for the staff who have moved into this new building but we are delighted that the students are now able to benefit from these excellent resources.”
