Fifteen Gorseinon College students have received offers to study at Oxford or Cambridge in October.
Siobhan Hynes, a former pupil of Bishop Gore School, plans to read English Language and Literature at Wolfson College, Cambridge. Laura Davies, a former pupil at Gwyr, will read French and Celtic Studies at Jesus College, Oxford, and another linguist heading for Oxford is former Bishopston pupil, Danny Rees, with his offer for French and Spanish at St Anne’s.
Cambridge is the destination for Gavin Reynolds, formerly of Llangatwg School, who will read Medicine at Selwyn College. Three others heading for a career in Medicine are Rajan Patel, Jessica Blackaby and George Cherian, all of whom studied previously at Bishopston School, and will be going to Worcester College, Oxford, Trinity Hall, Cambridge, and St Hugh's,.Oxford, respectively. Another Bishopston student, Owain Davies, has received his offer for the Veterinary Medicine course at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge
Three Geography students - Ellen Thomas and Charlotte Lamnea, formely of Bishopston School, and Leah Grint, who studied at Birchgrove School – will be studying at Newnham and Murray Edwards College, Cambridge, and Mansfield College, Oxford. Another Bishopston pupil, Rosemary Montague-Evans, who plans to read Mathematics, will also be going to Newnham College.
Two scientists with their sights on Oxford are Hywel Evans - Chemistry at St Hugh's - and Charles Cooper - Earth Sciences at Exeter College. They are both former pupils of Bishopston School, as is Daisy Pope, who will read Archaeology and Anthropology at Robinson College, Cambridge.
Nick Bennett, College Principal, commented: “Gorseinon College has a well-developed Oxbridge Preparation Programme and probably sends more students to Oxford and Cambridge than any other college in Wales.
