Welcome
As I write this, we are celebrating the opening of Gower College Swansea, formed by the merger of Gorseinon College and Swansea College.
This merger heralds a new era of post-compulsory education in Swansea: an era of co-operation, of widening choice and of improving access to education in this area. It is all about bringing together the best of what is offered at each of the Colleges.
This year it’s very much “business as usual”. Our prospectuses outline our selection of varied programmes and where they will run. If there are any changes in the future we will, of course, give our learners plenty of notice.
This is an exciting time for the new College; the number of students progressing to higher education is increasing all the time - our Gorseinon site has amongst the highest in Wales. This year’s cohort has been accepted to study at universities and specialist colleges throughout the UK, with sixteen students going to Oxbridge colleges.
We are also developing a bid for a city centre site where we hope to provide the very latest facilities for a large range of vocational skills training, taking our students from the early stages of skills development to technical courses at degree level.
You will find that this is a friendly and supportive College in which to study. We have high expectations of our learners and we achieve some of the most outstanding examination results in Wales.
I am very proud to have been chosen to lead Gower College Swansea and will ensure that the very high standards we have achieved in both Gorseinon and Swansea Colleges continue into the future.
